This engine was on display at the MIT Aero/Astro Department's 100th Anniversary Open House. The front (inlet) of the engine is on the left, the exhaust on the right. Note that the compressor feeds air into the combustion chamber enclosures from the front, and the air enters the chambers themselves from the back: The flame is burning toward the FRONT of the engine before being reversed to flow through the turbine on its way out of the back of the engine (and airplane). Newer engine designs have generally given up this curious double-reverse feature in the interest of efficiency.
